Ice Age 4 : Continental Drift

Film: Ice Age 4 : Continental Drift
Year: 2012
Time: 88min
Rating: 6.8/10

You know those rainy afternoons that only you feel like you lie down on the couch and watch a movie? That's what happened to me yesterday. I left the university and saw that the day was so ugly  I decided with my colleagues to see a movie together. The chosen was the Ice Age 4.

No one knows the exact date of the extinction of the dinosaurs, but now you could say that continental drift originated when the squirrel Scrat tried to bury a nut. That squirrel was bad until the core of the earth and littered the whole room.

With this, the ice began to melt and unfortunately Manny separated from his wife and his little daughter had discussed seconds ago. Is obvious that Manny was not alone since ended up on a piece of ice floating at sea with their best friends Sid and Diego. In this film there is a new acquisition that is Sid's grandmother who was abandoned by family as he was taken care of and Sid A character who fits perfectly into the content seen her be completely senile. With that Manny promises return to find his family. While walking adrift in the ocean they are attacked by pirates whose leader an orangutan named Guts. In this group of pirates there is a saber-toothed tiger Diego which is completely in love.

I will not say more of the story but our little heroes will face many dangers (eg the singing of the sirens) and find a new world!

Personal comment:

I really liked the movie! Seen with friends becomes much better! Can you laugh, have a good story and animation are spectacular. Would give this movie 6/10. I love animated movies :)

The Lord of the Rings : The Fellowship of the Ring

Film: The Lord of the Rings : The Fellowship of the Ring
Year: 2001
Time: 178min
Rating: 8.8/10

During this month I will post about the other two. But now here is the first: D

Who ever saw The Lord of the Rings because it does not like movies! It is without doubt the best trilogy ever been made! What can I say about this movie if everything has already been said?

Director Chris Columbus merely making a movie just right, following the text paragraph by paragraph by JK Rowling. No demerit that. Meanwhile, across the world, the hitherto semi-unknown Peter Jackson turned his dream into reality to transport Middle-earth for the big screen. The task was thankless and fanaticism that surrounds Lord of the Rings would scare in very prestigious director in Hollywood. In a move that demonstrates the audacity of the project, Jackson managed to convince the suits at New Line Cinema to open the safes. With $ 300 million in hand, he managed to assemble a cast of stars without exorbitant paychecks, but very experienced and hard to be criticized. Using the argument that always wanted to be fanatically loyal to the work, Jackson convinced the players (and fans) to shoot the entire trilogy in one fell swoop. Were 15 months (a normal movie takes on average 4 months) in the remote but rich in natural scenery New Zealand native director. It was the first time that three entire movies were filmed without a break between them.

The actors had to learn that the Elven language of the elves, to help tell the story of Frodo Baggins (Elijah Wood). The young hobbit receives from his cousin and guardian Bilbo (Ian Holm) the One Ring. The object was created by Sauron, a powerful being who wants to rule the world. He was defeated for ages and now resurfaces to recover your precious. The mission of Frodo and his friends is to destroy the One Ring and, therefore, will have to walk to Mordor, where he was built.

The film unfortunately lost several Oscars. The cast is one of the greatest strengths of the film. Elijah Wood was born for the role of Frodo, and should be marked as the little hero of hairy feet. The scenes where he is attracted by the Ring are the high point of interpretation of the young actor. Sean Austin is one that is perfect in the skin of the brave and courageous Sam Gamgee, who does everything to protect his friend Frodo. Billy Boyd and Dominic Monagham form the double Merry & Pippin, the comic relief of the film. Both are very funny, and identical to the way described by Tolkien in his work. Ian McKellen is another that seems to be born for his role (the wizard Gandalf). The actor conveys all the charisma of the character (feature that also appears in the books) and takes a bath in scenes more dramatic interpretation.
Liv Tyler as Arwen is very well, and despite its small stake, gets the best role of his career.

Personal comment:

Director Peter Jackson then fulfills its mission so superb and passionate, and still can print from "The Fellowship of the Ring" beautiful and heartfelt lessons of hope, friendship (a character defends another's life with passion and courage - the largest example is Sam, Frodo defender) and life (as one that teaches Gandalf to Frodo, after the two step into the gate of Moria), which were also present in the works of Tolkien. The director keeps alive the magic of Middle Earth, and transforms this first part of the saga in the first cinematic masterpieces of the early twenty-first century. Anyway, it came to the story.

I would give 9/10 the movie :)

The Expendables 2

Film: The Expendables 2
Year: 2012
Time: 103min
Rating: 7.5/10

Before any reference to the film will present the surreal cast, simply because it deserves:

  • Sylvester Stallone
  • Van Damme
  • Jason Statham
  • Jet Li
  • Dolph Lundgren
  • Chuck Norris
  • Bruce Willis
  • Arnold Schwarzenegger
  • Terry Crews
  •  Randy Couture

This list is enough?

When looking at this list, we immediately think that the movie is worth viewed.

A comedy and action, written by Richard Wenk and Sylvester Stallone.

Raising the sunken heroes of the glory years of the VHS, the secret of production is not taken seriously: the actors play caricatures of themselves in action films before, taking the audience on a nostalgic ride by cinema 80's, and adding effects modern special of the new decade.

The Expendables 2 begins with the return of Church (Bruce Willis (Die Hard) as the contractor team of Barney (Sylvester Stallone, Rambo) for a new job: rescue of a downed plane a device that contains valuable information. Preparations for a simple mission, Barney and his team set out on their Jumbo to rescue the lost item, but are surprised by another rescue team. Trapped, they are forced to cooperate and deliver the recovered item Villain (Jean-Claude Van Damme, The Great White Dragon), a Russian criminal with grandiose plans for the valuable device. Following the team of mercenaries begins a chase hard to stop him from realizing their plans.

Personal comment:

Despite all this revelry testosterone, The Expendables 2 has glaring errors. If you pay attention in the face of thugs will find the same extra / stuntman being killed twice, three times, which justifies the absurd body count. Other excerpts clueless - the heroes invade an airport full of civilians firing shots in every direction - show that the tape is not concerned with logic, continuity and / or plausibility and your goal is only fun. Thus, the brain is better off before entering the theater.

A Separation

Film: A Separation
Year: 2011
Time: 123min
Rating: 8.6/10

A Separation is an Iranian film that is surprising the world and snatching awards in several countries.
The script of the film is simply sensational. There are even guilty and innocent. Everyone suffers and no one knows their percentage of fault in the crisis in which the families live. All the characters live a moral conflict with the situation, either by having left home, for having pushed the employee, having been careless to leave the house or for lying to authorities. All this thinking is revealed can be analyzed through ethical and religious principles.

A Separation is one of the most beautiful films that the past year has given us. In it we follow the story of an Iranian middle-class couple, Nader and Simin, willing to emigrate to the daughter Termeh can grow in an environment with more opportunities. The problem is that when the occasion arises, because Nader recoils not want to leave behind his father, a victim of Alzheimer's and more frail with each passing day, leading to the fury of Simin which ultimately filed for divorce. This leaves home, far from imagining the chain of tragic events caused by their action and that eventually dominate the plot.

As the situation vai sharpening and new data will be released, which will confuse us about who speaks truth and who is lying, also witnessed the unsuccessful attempts to join Termeh parents again. For his dialogues with his father, who chooses to stay at the beginning of the movie instead of following the mother to his grandparents' house, we realized that this separation was only motivated by sheer stubbornness.

Awards:

Already awarded in numerous festivals, received the Golden Bear for Best Film at the Berlin Film Festival, where he also went out of winning interpretations of Peyman Moaadi, Leila Hatami, Sareh Bayat and Shahab Hosseini. Termeh was magnificently played by the director's daughter, Sarina Farhadi. The characterization of actors is very strong, supported by an argument also written by Asghar Farhadi.

Personal comment:

Is this young film, of a more social than political, which follows the great names of Kiarostami and Panahi. With his fifth film already, Farhadi has just joined the family and the scenes inside cars are certainly a tribute to his older compatriot.

Red Dragon

Film: Red Dragon
Year: 2002
Time: 124min
Rating: 7.2/10

Although this film was made in 2002, this is the last film to have placed here: Silence of the Lambs.

Directed by Brett Ratner, whose main actors Anthony Hopkins (the cannibal mentioned in another film), Edward Norton (FBI) and Ralph Fiennes (the bad guy).

Not sure if there is a movie before this, which was perfectly normal because it would show us how Hannibal was caught. In the first 10 minutes of the film gives us a short summary of how Hannibal "worked" and as Will (Edward Norton) gets the pick.

After that Will retires from the FBI and goes to live with his family for a vacation home. With his fame, he was picking the cannibal, is now called to look at a case that is being complicated. This is where it starts to work again with the best forensic psychiatrist, Hannibal, making it one prison visits and this plays again with his psychological.

When Mr. D, the bad guy, this becomes a good character as it is a reality that we see often the victim of abuse as a child undergoes some transformations psychological changes becoming a killer of entire families.

Personal comment:

I think those who like the Silence of the Lambs should see this. Following is the height of the film and connected with it. The grade assigned by the cinematic community is well on imdb assigned. A movie a bit long but worth seeing.

Forrest Gump

Film: Forrest Gump
Year: 1994
Time: 142min
Rating: 8.7/10

Who does not remember this movie?

Forrest Gump is a good movie for connoisseurs good. Tom Hanks shows one of the most important phases of his career, one that earned him two Oscars consecutive awards (1995 and 1994 by Forrest Gump in Philadelphia). Forrest Gump snatched six statuettes. It was a great success and made history by depicting key moments in world history and American culture, taken as part of the life of the sympathetic character, merged own existential poetry of pure heart.

Forty years of U.S. history, seen through the eyes of Forrest Gump (Tom Hanks), a guy with below average IQs that, by chance, can participate in crucial moments, such as the Vietnam War and Watergate.

The main character is not Forrest, but America, its paternalism exacerbated their ideology dominating barely disguised in patriotic heroism history. Forrest is all of us, with some sweetness, some others with rebellion or nonconformity. America, or rather that part of American territory known as the United States, born of the echoes of the Enlightenment of the eighteenth century, under the light of reason, accepted both believe in their own greatness and importance to the point of wanting to turn each of us into Forrests Gumps, adorable creatures, peaceful and submissive in the service of his ideals and system.

Personal comment:

The film exaggerates at times to introduce ourselves Forrest Gump as the typical American hero. The passages of American history do not work very well for the public not to know. Therefore, "Forrest Gump" should be much better for the Americans and there, perhaps, the title "masterpiece" can be trusted. Around here, it's still "only" a great movie for a Portuguese like me. I'll stick with the score 8/10.

City of God

Film: City of God
Year: 2002
Time: 130min
Rating: 8.7/10

It's a film that had no curiosity to see, but with so many critics and won some awards so I decided to see if it would be worth. It was adapted from a book.

The film is divided into parts usually come out a genuine disaster. But this is not the case. The story is divided into three stages and is extremely well told even though at different times. Could be a bit confusing but does not. Everything fits perfectly.
The characters are presented in due time and in a clear and objective.

This movie shows us what goes on inside a favela, we can feel the whole atmosphere that is around what makes a vision quite different and much more interesting and engaging. We can see what is happening with each resident and what happens to some of them, such as some that are good people and end up becoming criminals, or people who believe in honesties, or people who are born to kill, or to children who not starve sustain drug trafficking throughout the slum.

I will not tell the story or summarize it up because I think it's not worth it. "Seeing is believing!"

Personal comment:
Show the violent rhythm of a Brazilian favela, even going against the more intellectual who accuse the deification of mercantile violence, makes City of God go up and rub the public the reality is that in a country like Brazil. Would give 8/10 the movie.

Taken

Film: Taken
Year: 2008
Time: 93min
Rating: 7.9/10

This film was written by Luc Besson and Robert Mark Kamen, and in just one week, grossed a whopping $ 24.7 million. According to the producers, Taken cost $ 30 million.

Irish actor Liam Neeson is the main thing in this movie. He is Bryan Mills in the film and is a man who worked for several years for the government. Now retired, he decides to bring her daughter Kim (Maggie Grace) fruit of the relationship with his ex-wife Lenore (Famke Janssen). Getting slowly closer to her daughter this starts to become a problem when your daughter asks you to travel to Paris with a friend. Bryan gives even thwarted and ultimately see their fears become a reality when Kim is kidnapped by a dangerous group of Albanians specialized in trafficking in women. Of course, his father will try to rescue her throughout the entire film following tracks and runways. I will not tell the rest of the film because it would lose the whole joke.

The action scenes fulfill its function. There are several chases and shootouts that fill the screen and violence that convey a sense of adrenaline to the public. The clichés abound in these scenes too, is loaded with villains through the stereotypes that have bad aim or by highly trained hero who is rarely injured. In short, these action scenes work but only with true fans of the genre.

Personal comment:

Despite being a predictable movie is a good action movie. The story of the movie is quite good. Daria 7/10 for this movie and I am being too benevolent. Liam Neeson has a satisfactory and convincing, but the remaining cast has a weak secondary job and without much relief to the film. "Taken" is a work full of exaggerations and violence that is sure to please lovers of action movies, however, the remaining audience may find this book too unrealistic and nonsensical.

Slumdog Millionaire

In this new month, nothing better than starting with a film that lets anyone glued to the screen. Who does not like this movie?

Film: Slumdog Millionaire
Year: 2008
Time: 121min
Rating: 8.1/10

Without doubt the best movie of 2008 Slumdog Millionare is a story comevente a competitor "who wants to be a billionaire?" without any culture that wins the top prize. Directed by Danny Boyle with Dev Patel, Saurabh Shukla, Anil Kapoor, initially thought that this is a movie still for more love with India as the main scenario. But no, I was wrong completely.

Since the abduction of children to misery is an engaging story (also love) portraying a kid who managed to escape the tragic situation of the country. And therefore gain enough knowledge to win a contest that requires a high general understanding of everything. Of course, as an Indian, no studies can win a contest like this? That's where he is tortured and questioned how he got it. The fortune he wins it, incredible as it may seem, a crash course. What he really wants is to find Latika (Indian girl Freida Pinto).
I can not tell you more because the joke would lose as much as I liked the film.

The best of the film is undoubtedly the story, and the actors performing roles that are fantastic and very well made.

Personal comment:
A film that left me completely stuck to the screen this the beginning to the end. Let me think of how life can teach us anything from general education to the teaching insignificant it may seem. Loved the movie. I want to see it again later. The score of IMBD, in my view, is a bit unfair. Give to him 9/10 without a doubt. Look, and be as fascinated as I was :)
